I’m a novice, when i comes to being us st about my feelings
Don’t want to show you that I’m really just a little lost inside
Counting up what honesty might cost my pride
If I showed you my true feelings.

Did you know it, did you know that I get hurt but never show it?
At least I say that I am fine but if you read between the lines 
You’ll disregard the face I sometimes hide behind
Scared to show you my true feelings.

And when I gather up what words are on my mind
When I move my lips and try to make the sounds
What if I don’t say what I mean, if it comes out wrong
When I begin to try to show you my true feelings?

Please excuse me, I’ve spent so many lonely years locked up inside me
Behind the door which through the years has closed
To keep outside the fears I’ve known when life has seemed to make me stand alone
I’m rediscovering my true feelings.

But it’s so easy, to smile you off when you are trying to get near me 
To use my face to tell you lies, but from the corner of your eye 
I know you’ve watched the frown return as you walked by 
Scared to show you my true feelings.

But my confidence in friends is really growing 
And I’m not half so scared to make my feelings known
I know that even when I’m wrong, this love still stands it’s really strong.

Now I can laugh and I can cry and I can sing
The sweetest joys and saddest tears can now begin
An honest heart and honest eyes its been a beautiful surprise
Since God gave me my true feelings.
