Hushed the room and silent
When her knock came on the door
‘Mary you’ve been dreaming ‘
I said
‘Visions come to weeping eyes like trouble to the poor
Don’t go chasing dreams among the dead’.
Hushed the room and silent
when she stood beside the door
‘Mary roll your tears away’
I said
‘I don’t believe your story but I must believe your eyes
Let’s go chasing dreams among the dead’
So the morning found me running
As the sun just touched the sky
And breathless as the night was rolled away
I stumbled through my hopes and fears
and found that you were gone
risen like the sun to bring the day
Lately I’ve been pretty near to heaven in his eyes l
Lately I’m amazed that it’s all true
I had lost myself in sorrow and I couldn’t find the door
Now I find I’ve lost myself in you
Now the great pretender must continue to pretend
that he didn’t fall like lightning from the sky
Love has found a highway and life has lost an end
Nazareth’s lost carpenter but the world has found a friend
Suddenly I’m burning with the sweet and strange desire
Jesus I’ve been dying far too long
My body has been waiting for the water and the fire
Home is where you are where I belong
Now the great pretender must continue to pretend
that he didn’t fall like lightning from the sky
For love has found a highway and life has lost an end
Nazareth’s lost carpenter but the world has found a friend
