Nothing Will Ever Be the Same Again comes from Rumours of Angels; my second collection of songs written as a complete Advent and Christmas production. It combines choir pieces, congregational songs, and solos, all designed to help people journey through the wonder of the Incarnation. This song is one of the solos, and it reflects on the incredible impact of that one night when Christ was born.
The inspiration came as I was meditating on the sheer magnitude of the Christmas story. I began to realise just how fundamental that moment is to everything, not only to human history, but to the very nature of creation itself.
If the story is true, if God really has been made flesh, then everything has changed. The Creator has entered His creation. The One who spoke the universe into being has now become one of His own creatures, still fully God, yet fully human. In that event, the entire fabric of reality was altered.
There’s a cosmic scale to it, heaven and earth united, eternity entering time, but there’s also a deeply personal scale. For every person who encounters Christ, life can never be the same again. To meet Him is to be changed. To welcome Him is to begin anew.
And that’s really the heart of Christmas. It isn’t just about warmth, tradition, or sentiment. It’s an invitation to step into a new way of seeing the world, to live in the light of God’s transforming presence.
That’s what the song tries to express: the wonder that when God draws near, nothing stays the same.
God is in the business of changing things, of making fresh starts, beginning new lives, and writing new stories. The birth of Jesus was the beginning of that great renewal, and it continues today, one heart, one life at a time.
