Sometimes a song starts with a single line. That’s gold dust for a songwriter. You read it and you think, there is a whole song in there. I just need to dig it out.

When I came across the line “my worth is not in what I own,” that was one of those moments. I began to work on it. But I just couldn’t seem to get it finished. It sat with me for a number of years.

Then I sat down to write with Keith and Kristyn Getty, and this was one of the songs I sang to them in its raw form. They connected with the theme immediately. It is a very contemporary theme, because so much of the way the world works is that you are valued according to how much you own and how much you can earn.

The song can fit at any time of year. But the season leading up to Easter, which liturgical churches call Lent, is a particularly appropriate season for this kind of song.
